With the advent of the new low noise and large format CCD and CMOS digital cameras, color astrophotography has never been easier or more fun.
Recently I traded upgraded my old Canon 300D for a 20d and have been using this with an Orion 80 mm ED refractor mounted piggyback on a 10" LX200. I've also modified my old Cookbook 245 for use as an air cooled autoguider with this setup. Generally I shoot multiple 6 minute frames at ISO 800 and stack them after calibrating with dark and flat frames.
